MATHEW FOULIDIS

President, founder and Sales Director

Born in Montreal in 1993, Mathew Foulidis was raised in a Greek-Italian household. His father immigrated to Canada from Kastoria, Greece in 1977, and his mother was born in the city of Montreal and is of Italian origin.

The inspiration for wine importation derives from the close bond that Mathew has with his maternal grandparents who come from the region of Friuli in Italy. Having frequently travelled to Italy from a young age, Mathew gained a deep appreciation for land, language, food and culture.

Furthermore, the women in Mathew’s life hold a very strong part in his personal identity. Through the relationships he nurtured with his mother, grandmother and aunt, Mathew was able to embrace a place in the kitchen where his cultivated palate has guided him to create dishes that range from a simple pasta to an extravagant roast. His passion for the kitchen allowed Mathew to venture into the culinary industry self-publishing a cookbook entitled, “From Nonna, With Love.” The main goal of this project was to commemorate and to entrench the traditions of his family’s patrimony, which holds food as its bedrock. The cookbook allowed Mathew to garner the confidence necessary to later venture into collecting wine at a personal level.

When Mathew was 18 years old, he discovered his affinity for wine over a meal with a family friend who made him taste a bottle of 2008 Sassicaia. From that moment on, Mathew began collecting as much wine as possible. Mathew later visited New York, where he realized that the quality of the products shelved and available in the United States were of a superior quality or unknown in Quebec. This sparked the idea to create a wine importation agency in Montreal that would be able to compete with big cities like New York.

Mathew originally founded his first wine importation company in 2015, where he operated within the company as the President and was mainly in charge of producer relations, liaising with the Société des Alcools du Québec, and strongly contributed to the company’s sales. In 2019, Mathew decided to go into business on his own where he would be able to carry out his artistic vision for wine importations in Quebec leading to the birth of Terroir Imports. Mathew holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, from the John Molson School of Business and he graduated university with honours in 2017.

Mathew speaks Italian, English, and French, and can even communicate in Spanish. His background and acquired knowledge have allowed Mathew to pave his way in the wine Industry in Quebec and forge meaningful relationships with clients, producers and important players in the wine world.

I am easily satisfied with the very best.
