Mauro Estévez - ribeiro

Located in the village of Arnoia, in the heart of Spain's Ribeiro wine region, Bodegas Mauro Estévez is a small, family-owned winery with 2.5 hectares of vineyards that produces less than 10,000 bottles per year. Although the Estévez family has been making wine since the 1940s, it wasn't until José (Pepe) Estevez took over in the 1970s that the winery began bottling and marketing its wines under its own label. Previously, the winery only kept a portion of its wine for personal consumption, selling the rest to locals.

Today, the estate is run by Pepe and his son Mauro. Their goal of staying true to tradition remains unchanged, that is, working only with native grape varieties from the region. The father-son team now use modern winemaking techniques to make what they believe are the most authentic and representative wines of their region. As Pepe says, "Quality comes first."

The estate's vineyards are divided into 16 different parcels and their soils are rich in granite and clay. Located near the Arnoia River – in the valley between the San Vicente and San Mauro mountain ranges – the estate makes the most of the unique mountain microclimate. The combination of its soils and cool mountain climate allows the estate to produce crisp, pure and elegant white wines.

The estate produces only three wines: its flagship, the Mauro Estevez White (a blend of Treixadura, Lado, Albariño and Loureira); its single-vineyard Lado called Uxia da Ponte; and its latest, the Mauro Estevez Red (a blend of old Brancellao, Caíño, Sousón and Ferrón vines)

This estate is held in high esteem in Ribeiro and deserves to be watched closely.
