Château de Montfrin - Rhône

Founded in 2000 by famous French film director Jean René de Fleurieu, Château de Montfrin is located in the Southern Rhône. In fact, the estate’s placement is unique given that it is situated at the intersection of three regions: Rhône, Languedoc and Provence. Its proximity to the ocean allows for a coastal breeze to travel through its vines and its proximity to the mountains allows for cool nighttime temperatures.

In fact, in an era where global warming is becoming an ever-increasing challenge for winemakers in France’s southern regions, it is amazing to notice the incredible finesse, purity of fruit and lively acidity that the wines of Château de Montfrin possess.

The estate has over 200 hectares of vineyards and carries organic certification. One of Jean-René’s founding principles was that of respect for the environment on which his vines and olive trees grow. In his view, intervention ought to be kept to an absolute minimum and, as such, no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used at the estate. Although the sulfite levels are kept low in all of the estate’s wines, in recent years, Benjamin Béguin, winemaker at Château de Montfrin, has begun experimenting with wines that have no added sulfites.

From the onset, de Fleurieu’s aim was to produce quality wines at a price point that could allow his clients to enjoy them every night at the dinner table.

Today, Jean René’s daughter, Aurore, has taken over the commercial side of affairs and oversees all aspects of production.

Apart from its wine production, Château de Montfrin is one of the largest olive oil producers in France.

We are so proud to be the exclusive importers of Château de Montfrin in the province of Quebec.
